Built by: Easy Breadcrumb
The URL is /about/team/our-engineers and the trail is Home › About Us › Team › Our Engineers. About us is a page; /about/team is not, so Team is plain text.
The pattern
Location breadcrumb: the path is the hierarchy. Each segment of the URL becomes a crumb, titled with the title of the page at that path and linked to it. A segment with no page behind it still appears, as unlinked text made from the segment itself.
When to use it
Sites whose URLs are already organized by section, such as company pages, campus sites or a knowledge base, where the path is a faithful map of the site. There is no per-page work: give a page the right alias and its trail follows. Showing the missing segments keeps the trail as long as the URL, so visitors still see the section they are in when it has no landing page.
How it is configured
- Give pages hierarchical aliases. This one is
/about/team/our-engineers, set by hand in the URL alias field; a Pathauto pattern does the same for a whole content type. - At Configuration › User interface › Easy breadcrumb, under General settings, tick Include the front page as a segment in the breadcrumb (title Home) and Include the current page as a segment in the breadcrumb.
- Under Advanced settings, tick Use the real page title when available, so about is shown as the title of the page at
/aboutrather than as URL text. - Tick Include invalid paths alias as plain-text segments. That is what keeps Team in the trail.
Core alone would show Home › About us here: it skips /about/team and leaves out the current page.
