Oxford shirt

Category

Built by: Custom Breadcrumbs

The URL is /shop/oxford-shirt and the trail is Home › Shop › Clothing › Men › Shirts › Oxford shirt, built from the product's category.

The pattern

Product in its category tree: product URLs stay flat, and the trail is built from the product's category and the category's parents, each linked to its category page.

When to use it

Shops and catalogs. A product URL that does not include the category stays the same when the product is moved to another category, and stays short; the trail still shows the department it is in.

How it is configured

  1. Give products a flat Pathauto pattern, /shop/[node:title], and the categories /shop/[term:name].
  2. At Structure › Custom breadcrumbs, add a Content entity rule for Content, Product.
  3. Breadcrumb paths:
    /shop
    <term_hierarchy:field_category>
    <nolink>
  4. Breadcrumb titles:
    Shop
    Category
    [node:title]
  5. At Configuration › User interface › Custom breadcrumbs settings, tick Prepend default "Home" link and leave Append current page title like the latest crumb off: each rule ends with a crumb for the page itself.

The category crumbs link to the term pages, such as Shirts, whose own trail Easy Breadcrumb builds.
