Shirts

Built by: Easy Breadcrumb

The URL of this category is /shop/shirts, but the trail is Home › Shop › Clothing › Men › Shirts. Shop comes from the URL; Clothing › Men comes from the vocabulary.

The pattern

Category page with its parents: on a taxonomy term page, the trail lists the term's ancestors, read from the vocabulary rather than from the URL.

When to use it

Shops, catalogs and directories, with categories several levels deep: category URLs stay short, and visitors can still climb back up the tree.

How it is configured

  1. At Configuration › User interface › Easy breadcrumb, tick Add parent hierarchy. On term pages it inserts the parent terms before the current one.
  2. Keep the term aliases flat. The Pathauto pattern for Product category is /shop/[term:name]. With the parents in the URL as well, as in [term:parents:join-path]/[term:name], each parent would appear twice: once from the URL and once from the hierarchy.
  3. For terms with no alias, set Paths to be excluded while generating segments to ^/taxonomy(/term)?$, so the raw Taxonomy › Term segments go. Drupal is such a term.

Core has a builder of its own for this, which lists the term's parents. Easy Breadcrumb is asked first and applies to term pages too, so without Add parent hierarchy the parents would be lost.
